What should you do? Run? Hide? Beat him up?

Uhh... is this the middle of the night? Is it loud and forceful? Is it the mailman? Is it a Jehovah's Witness? A political pollster? A magazine salesman? Need context!!

If it's just normal knocking int he daytime I'd check the peephole, and if it doesn't look dangerous, open the door a crack and see what he wants.

If the context leads me to believe it's dangerous, I'd make no sounds, get a knife or one of my swords, survey my surroundings for other potential objects to use, find a strategic defensive position, and see if he tries to break in. If things are looking extremely dangerous, I'd do that then call the police. Alternately, I have stairs right outside my door, so another option would be to quickly open the door and kick him down.

The latter is not in your poll, so I voted "open the door, and ask nicely, "Yes? Sir?"

...why would I be freaked out if someone knocked on my door? It's not that rare an occasion.

When it's late at night and spooky and someone knocked on the door I'd pretend I wasin't home but if he broke in I'd hit him with a sharp object! >=D And if it ended up being someone needing help that was knocking and I knocked him out....Not good XD

If I am alone I will ask from the door I'll politely ask "Hello do you need something?" but first I'll get something sharp or very hard.

Well if my family was home I'd ask them to look who is at the door. If I'm alone I'll probably fool them and pretend nobody is at home if the knocks on the door was really... violent and frequent.
